Treating addictions as a response to trauma: a new approach

The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model challenges the current pathologizing paradigm with an approach that draws on our inner strength.

Jan Winhall’s model integrates Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing, centered on our inner feelings, what he calls the Felt Sense. This approach enables us to understand trauma and addictive behavior as adaptive responses to maladaptive situations.
