Deep healing of trauma with the IFS (Internal Family Systems) model

Healing wounds by mobilizing the protectors, with Richard Schwartz

IFS and healing trauma: Richard Schwartz’s approach

In this talk given in 2021, Richard Schwartz looks back at the emergence of the IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapeutic model and explains that what traumatizes is not the traumatic event itself, but the impact that the trauma has on our various parts.

It shows how IFS can help to heal these wounds by working with the protective parts (managers, firefighters) and the exiled parts, as well as unloading the “burdens”.

And finally, Richard Schwartz:

  • Introduces the concept of Self and its eight essential healing qualities.
  • Describes how to negotiate with protectors to resolve internal conflicts.
  • Puts it into practice and answers questions from the audience.
