Hassoon
Dr. Tayseer Hassoon is a highly accomplished psychiatrist, consultant, and mental health trainer based in Damascus, Syria. With a career spanning two decades, Dr. Hassoon has worked extensively with prominent organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNFPA, and UNRWA. As a lecturer at Damascus University, he educates clinical psychology students on psychological diagnosis, integrating neuroscience advancements into his teachings.
He has trained over 3,000 medical professionals in mental health care, led psychosocial support initiatives for displaced communities, and contributed to numerous humanitarian programs across the Middle East. Dr. Hassoon’s expertise also extends to gender-sensitive counseling, crisis management, and post-disaster psychosocial recovery.
He has co-authored mental health manuals and spearheaded the development of innovative training programs. His work has profoundly impacted mental health awareness and services in Syria and beyond.
Dr. Hassoon has contributed to key WHO resources and translated essential mental health materials into Arabic. His passion for neuroscience informs his clinical practice and training programs. He voluntarily supports teams providing psychological aid to earthquake victims in Syria and has served as the scientific officer for the Association of Psychiatrists in Syria.
Dr Hassoon’s expertise has made a significant impact on mental health in the region and is recognized internationally. In 2024 he was invited to speak at the Polyvagal Institute’s Conference in Potsdam, Germany.
