Certified Clinical Psychotherapist in IFS and founder of IFSCA, an organization that teaches the IFS model in Canada.
Derek Scott (now deceased) was a certified clinical psychotherapist in IFS (Internal Family Systems) with over 40 years of practice, including 20 years of exclusive practice in IFS therapy. He was the founder of IFSCA, an organization that teaches the IFS model to mental health professionals in Canada.
As a licensed social worker, he spent 18 years working with people living with AIDS. What he learned from his patients enabled him to understand the needs of the LGBTQI2 community, the homeless, people struggling with substance use, and marginalized populations, particularly sex workers. His experience working with these populations led him to understand the pervasive nature of shame.
Trained in Gestalt therapy, psychodrama, and sociometry, Derek brought a wealth of expertise to teaching the IFS model. He was known for his compassion, insight, and humor. He excelled at creating a dynamic of engagement in group work.
