Eugene Ellis, psychothérapeute et écrivain, se consacre à la guérison des traumatismes raciaux et dirige le Black, African and Asian Therapy Network.
Eugene Ellis est psychothérapeute, écrivain et conférencier sur les questions de race, de différence et d’intersectionnalité. Pendant de nombreuses années, il a travaillé avec des enfants gravement traumatisés et leurs familles dans le domaine de l’adoption. Il s’intéresse particulièrement aux thérapies axées sur le corps et à la facilitation de la guérison du trauma. Eugene est membre honoraire du Conseil britannique pour la psychothérapie. Au cours des 20 dernières années, il a été directeur et fondateur du Black, African and Asian Therapy Network, la plus grande organisation indépendante du Royaume-Uni spécialisée dans le travail thérapeutique avec les personnes noires, africaines, caribéennes et asiatiques.
Son livre, Transforming Race Conversations : A Healing Guide For Us All (2024), précédemment publié sous le titre The Race Conversation (2021), explore la construction raciale tant à travers son développement cognitif et historique que, de manière plus cruciale, sur la communication intergénérationnelle non verbale de la race, à la fois comme moyen de contrôle social et comme partie essentielle de la navigation dans les schémas oppressifs. Eugene est également l’un des coéditeurs de Therapy In Colour: Intersectional, Anti-Racist and Intercultural Approaches by Therapists of Colour (2023), qui cherche à articuler de nouvelles perspectives théoriques utiles tant pour les praticiens blancs que pour les praticiens de couleur afin de soutenir la thérapie avec des clients noirs et de couleur à travers un prisme intersectionnel, incluant l’intersection du genre, de la sexualité et de la diversité relationnelle, et du colorisme.
Eugene Ellis is a psychotherapist, writer and public speaker on issues of race, difference and intersectionality. For many years, he has worked with severely traumatised children and their families in the field of adoption and has a particular interest in body-orientated therapies and facilitating the healing of trauma. Eugene is an Honorary Fellow of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. For the past 20 years, he has been the director and founder of the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network, the UK’s largest independent organisation to specialise in working therapeutically with Black, African, Caribbean and Asian people.
His book, ‘Transforming Race Conversations: A Healing Guide For Us All (2024), previously published as “The Race Conversation” (2021), explores the race construct both through its cognitive and historical development and also, more crucially, on the intergenerational, non-verbal communication of race, both as a means of social control and as an essential part of navigating oppressive patterns.
Eugene is also one of the co-editors of ‘Therapy In Colour: Intersectional, Anti-Racist and Intercultural Approaches by Therapists of Colour'(2023), which seeks to articulate new theoretical perspectives useful for both white practitioners and practitioners of colour to support therapy with black and people of colour clients through an intersectional lens, including the intersection of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity and colourism.
