Jack Kornfield holds a PhD in clinical psychology and trained as a Buddhist monk in monasteries in Thailand, India, and Burma. He was a leading figure in introducing the practice of Buddhist mindfulness meditation to the West, and has been teaching it internationally since 1974. After graduating from Dartmouth College with a degree in Asian studies in 1967, he joined the Peace Corps and worked with tropical medicine teams in the Mekong Valley. Upon returning to the United States, he co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, and the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California. He teaches at centers and universities around the world, leads international gatherings of Buddhist teachers, and collaborates with many prominent teachers.
