Joanna
Smith

Clinical psychologist, teacher, and author specialized in the treatment of trauma and structural dissociation.

Joanna Smith is a clinical psychologist, trainer, university psychology professor, author, and certified Lifespan Integration (LI) trainer. She specializes in the treatment of trauma, structural dissociation, and attachment disorders. She worked for 15 years in adult psychiatry, particularly with individuals suffering from severe personality disorders, perpetrators of physical and sexual violence, and victims of trauma, particularly complex trauma.

This career path led her to train in EMDR, structural dissociation theory, hypnosis, Lifespan Integration, attachment theory, and brief strategic therapies. She now works in private practice, primarily with victims of complex trauma. Her work focuses particularly on how very early life experiences are encoded, how they influence subsequent psychopathological development—in the form of protective factors (resilience), vulnerability, or risk—and the possibilities for healing through psychotherapy.

Joanna has published numerous books, some aimed at raising public awareness, such as A la rencontre de son bébé intérieur and La puissance réparatrice de votre cerveau, as well as works intended for professionals, notably Trauma et résilience (with R. Coutanceau and S. Lemitre), Le Grand livre des 1000 premiers jours de vie, and Psychothérapie de la dissociation et du trauma.
