Miriam
Cue Rio

A mindfulness teacher trained with the Mindfulness Training Institute, currently working at the IRD.

Miriam Cué Rio has worked in the field of development cooperation for over 20 years. After earning her PhD in development economics, she spent six years at the European Commission building bridges between research and European development policy.

At the same time, she studied Buddhism at the Bodhi College and earned her certification as a mindfulness teacher from the Mindfulness Training Institute (a training organization based in the UK and US, and accredited by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association). She has deepened her understanding of mindfulness by participating in retreats around the world, as well as research conferences, summer schools, and other international events.

She currently works at the French National Research Institute for Development (IRD), and her research project focuses on the role that mindfulness might play in changing our attitudes toward our relationship with animals.

Miriam has presented her research in the United States at a symposium on contemplative sciences organized by the Mind and Life Institute and at the University of Oxford during a summer school on animal ethics. Deepening her mindfulness practice has had a profound impact on her research interests, which have evolved from the fight against poverty to also include the suffering of other sentient beings, namely animals
