Paula
Ramirez
Co-director of BREATHE International, interested in how resilience and healing can be guided by the body.
Paula Ramírez is a Colombian national. While studying anthropology—and due to an illness—she became interested in the ways in which human beings can find inner peace, and how resilience and healing can be inspired and guided by the body.
Paula has carried out humanitarian missions in India, Nepal, Thailand, and Burma, and has worked, among others, for the Tibetan government-in-exile.
Since 2013, she has co-directed RESPIRA in Colombia (now BREATHE International). With an approach grounded in mindfulness, somatic bodywork, and anthropology, she has worked in Colombia with teachers in conflict zones, and with victims of torture, gender-based violence, or landmines, as well as in South Sudan and Bangladesh with Rohingya refugees.
She has recently been participating in a UN-funded research program based on mindfulness to support volunteers and frontline healthcare workers in several countries, including Yemen, Iraq, Nigeria, and Venezuela.
