Trudy Goodman Kornfield, PhD, is a Vipassana meditation teacher and the founder of InsightLA, where she teaches alongside Jack Kornfield and Kate Lila Wheeler. She also leads retreats at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California, the Big Bear Retreat Center, and the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts.

Trudy trained in meditation and psychotherapy, studying developmental psychology with Jean Piaget, Lawrence Kohlberg, and Carol Gilligan, and Buddhist meditation with Seung Sahn, Kobun Chino Otagawa Roshi, Maurine Stuart Roshi, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, and others. She practiced mindfulness-based psychotherapy with children, adolescents, adults and couples, for 25 years in Cambridge and taught MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) with Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In 1995, she co-founded the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy, the world’s first center dedicated to integrating these two disciplines, and continues to serve as a guide there. From 1991 to 1998, she was a Zen teacher at the Cambridge Buddhist Association.

Trudy leads retreats and workshops worldwide and is a contributing author to: A Clinician’s Guide to Teaching Mindfulness: The Comprehensive Session-by-Session Program for Mental Health Professionals and Health Care Providers (2015); Clinical Handbook of Mindfulness (Springer, 2008); Compassion and Wisdom in Psychotherapy (Guilford Press, 2011); and Mindfulness and Psychotherapy (Guilford Press, 2013).
