South African clinical psychologist, specializing in PTSD and complex trauma treatment.
Woltemade Hartman, PhD, is a clinical and school psychologist as well as a psychotherapist in Pretoria, South Africa. He works as a clinician, consultant, and experienced international trainer, specializing in the treatment of PTSD and complex trauma-related disorders. He has worked extensively with survivors of trauma, torture, war, and human rights violations in various countries and regions around the world. He has also served in an advisory capacity to political leaders and political parties internationally.
Woltemade is the founding director of the Milton H. Erickson Institutes of South Africa (MEISA), and the founder and former president of Ego State Therapy International, where he currently serves as secretary and treasurer. He served on the executive board of the International Society of Hypnosis from 2013 to 2024, and held the position of Chair of the Council of Representatives. He has also served as a senior researcher in the Department of Psychology at the University of Johannesburg, and lectures internationally.
He is trained in Polyvagal Theory (he is a facilitator for the Polyvagal Academy in Germany) as well as in EMDR, EMI, EdxTM, Impact Therapy, sex therapy, mindfulness techniques, therapeutic yoga for trauma, and Soma Body Therapy, and is a certified practitioner of Somatic Experiencing.
